Backgound

The MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY campaign was launched in June 2005 at an event in the Danish Parliament, Christiansborg. During 2005 we have lobbied politicians and ministers on ODA, debt, MDG and trade issues. The Danish Minister of Development took part in a GCAP event in Brussels in May and our Minister of Finance in Luxembourg in June. We were present at the G8 meeting in Gleneagles in Scotland, the Millennium Summit in New York and we will be part of the official Danish delegation in Hong Kong.

The MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY campaign has been visible at e.g. the Carnival in Copenhagen, Hangar Festival in Vejle, Vesterbro Festival, Roskilde Festival, the little Mermaid, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, ’Happy Birthday Mr. President’ concert in Fælledparken, Mariah Carey concert in Tivoli, U2 concert in Parken, Skanderborg Festival, Helsingør Festival, Pavarotti concert in Augustenborg, DHL in Fælledparken, Århus Festuge, Nørrebro Festival, Party Against Poverty at Club Pan og Årets Rapper in seven cities in Denmark.

Our next campaign is on the WTO meeting in Hong Kong 13-18 of December, where we demand an elimination of rich countries dumping of agricultural products. We have "dumped" some of Denmark’s most well known musicians. At www.makepovertyhistory.dk you can see e.g. Simon Kvamm being dumped with flower, Dicte with peas, Tue West with milk, Caroline Henderson with rice, Jesper Binzer with tomatoes, Lau Højen with sugar, Marie Frank with pasta and Karen with maize.
