EVENTS IN 2009

GCAP Germany is mobilising its constituency to participate and/or to organise Stand Up events.

The main events will take place in Bonn and will be organised by the UN Millennium Campaign Germany, which is leading in the overall organisation of the Stand Up. More on: http://stell-dich-gegen-armut.de

The campaign position paper "Stand by your commitments" is the political basis of the campaign. It was written in a participatory process by experts of German development NGOs in June 2008. Download English Version.

In the brochure "Campaigns, Impressions, Politics 2008" GCAP Germany looks back on the activities in 2008. Highlights were the Tanabata action in the run-up to the G8 summit in Japan, the UN summit on the MDGs in September and the global "Stand Up" in October. WHITE BAND DAY II - September 2005

White Banners in front of parliament building (Reichstag) in Berlin on WBD 2Handover of 300,000 signatures to Chancellor Gerhard Schröder on WBD 2On Friday September 9th, for the second White Band Day, the German GCAP coalition, “Deine Stimme Gegen Armut” presented to Chancellor Schröder the 300,000 names that they have collected this year. Reinhard Hermle requested that the Chancellor personally calls for greater and renewed efforts to meet the MDGs at the UN Summit in New York.

Throughout the year, campaign supporters have given their “voices against poverty” by adding signatures and messages to giant white bands at events and campaign moments around the country this year. On September 9th, hundreds of these activists also came together in front of the Bundestag and joined the pieces of signed white material together to form a 800 meter long white band, calling for world leaders to do more to end poverty now.

Thousands of German citizens displayed large white bands and campaigning at festivals and cultural events in regions across Germany on September 10th.

BACKGROUND

DEINE STIMME

GEGEN ARMUT is a campaign run jointly by VENRO, artist Herbert Groenemeyer and friends who are specialists in the PR and media branch. Everywhere and at any time, the “White Band” acts as a symbol of this world-wide campaign.

VENRO
