WHITE BAND DAY II

Wake-Up to Poverty! on Saturday 10th. September

This second day of global GCAP mobilisation will see the national coalition critically engage in the SEDP (Social Economic Development paper) consultation which being launched by the government to shape and influence the strategy to be more pro-poor.

The national alliance is also producing a documentary film that focuses on Peoples perspective on the MDGs to highlight the views of the public on larger issues concerning the global and national development goals. This film will be aired for the first ten days of September, parallel with the UN World Summit. This will support the call to national and world leaders to Wake-up to Poverty!

The aim of the campaign in Viet Nam is to raise awareness and to generate pressure on Governments, the media and donors. Some of the planned actions include:

  • Shows on national TV to talk about poverty eradication, to explain GCAP and to show how this campaign is relevant to peoples' lives in Viet Nam.
  • Supporting the April Global Action Week on Trade
  • 10th September - More TV coverage of the MDGs and hightlighting the campaign targets
  • 10th December - Join a Poor People rally in Hong Kong to target the WTO
