October 17 events
GCAP-Afghanistan organized its activities in the three phases
1. Pre October 17 (mobilization)
Mobilization was started almost 2 months before of the October 17. People from the different categories such as students from schools and faculty, women societies, nongovernmental organizations, people living in poverty, traders, civil societies government’s people and etc at both national and provincial level were contacted through organizing seminars, meeting, gatherings and individual meetings.
Consequent to our meetings, we met the key positions of the government and parliament for instance deputy of the president Mr.Khalili , chief of the economic committee of parliament Mr.Mustafa Kazimi and etc
Short TV clip, a short TV clips which was mainly focused on the objective of October 17 provided and it was broadcasted through two famous TV ( Ariana and Tolo ) channels. The most famous singer of Afghanistan Mrs. Mahyash who is living in abroad and she has come after almost 25 years to the country volunteered to delivered the message of October 17 through media.
2. October 17
On October 17, we conducted the following activities in Afghanistan:
A-Organizing big gathering in three big cities that are Kabul , Kunduz and Takhar.
People from different walk of life parliament members, key people from the government, representative from civil society, women society, NGOs, governor and provincial council members in the provincial level, representative of the people who are living in poverty and etc attended the gathering.
In Kabul , the gathering included the following activities:
- Speech, representatives from the parliament ( Mr.Mustafa Kazimi head of economic committee and Mrs.Shagul Rizaie , government ( Mr.Zulfuqar consultant in office of administrative affairs ) and members from GCAP-Afghanistan delivered speech in the gathering the speeches which were mainly focused on eradication of the poverty in Afghanistan.
- Short theaters, two short theaters show on poverty and its affect in our country demonstrated by the youth group from Sanayee development organization
- Resolution, at the end of the gathering resolution was read by one of the GCAP-Afghanistan member.
B-Providing of Banner
A long white banner (200m) provided and it was posted in front of the place where we organized the gathering. Around 20 slogans in two official languages (Dari and Pashto) were written on the banner. The people were invited/encouraged to sign on the white area of the banner.
C-Kite flying
After the end of the gathering we had kite flying event in Maranjan hill in Kabul and also in government stadium in Takhar province. 700 kites were prepared which each of them were carried a slogan for instance together against poverty, lets end the poverty and many other short slogan. Students from schools and universities attended the kite flying event.
D-Organizing gathering at Kabul districts
On October 17, member of the CDCs( community development council) and peace committees celebrated the October 17 in all districts of Kabul province the people from the respective districts were attended the meeting.
E-distribution of stickers and brochures
Brochures and stickers were distributed.
Representative of all media attended the events, they interviewed people from different categories such as member of GCAP-Afghanistan , representative from the government , parliament , people living in poverty . Also they record the event. Hopefully they will broadcast it through their channels.
According the data we received from our colleagues from the provinces and also from the districts of Kabul totally around more than 200,000 people joined the event and they stood up and spoke out against poverty and inequality in Afghanistan .

Afghan Youth Against Poverty
On 15 Aug 2007, Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP) Afghanistan Coalition organized peaceful walk entitled “Afghan Youth Against Poverty” in major cities of Afghanistan. Youth, wearing loose shirts on which the title of this walk (Afghan Youth Against Poverty) was written; carrying banners and posters that included their explicit demands for eradication of poverty engulfing youth all over Afghanistan, walked their way up from Ministry of Higher Education to Afghanistan National Assembly in Kabul city. While walking, they were chanting slogans to demand their rights
from the Islamic Government of Afghanistan such as “Afghan Youth Committed to Fight Against Poverty”, “Youth Are the Backbone of a Nation, Do Not Let Them Grow weak”, “Poverty is the Mother
of Crime” and many more slogans related to poverty and youth. This event was simultaneously organized in other major cities of Afghanistan such as Hirat, Ningarhar, Kunduz, Daikundi and Takhar
by coalition members of GCAP Afghanistan.

Events in 2005
WHITE BAND DAY II
The recently established Afghani coalition organised a series of meetings with a large range of organizations to discuss the formation of G-CAP Afghanistan.
The following events were held:
- 1. "Kites against Poverty" – Children flew white kites in Kabul with key messaging of the Mellenium Development Goals (MDG's) and GCAP.
- 2. Awareness raising activities were held in schools in conjunction with ministers, the media and popular artists.
- 3. Banners were hung up on different central buildings with strong GCAP messages.
- 4. A report on the MDG's was released. Local and national media were invited to cover the event and press conferences were held.
