07-07-07 events
Two Make History Chapters took action on July 7th, the Global Day of Action marking the midway point to the Millennium Development Goals (MDG). Both groups highlighted the need for Canada to do its part in helping realize the MDGs by honouring its commitment to the international 0.7% foreign aid target.
The Edmonton chapter organised a hugely successful "07 for 07" event to raise awareness of the MDGs and raise funds for Make Poverty History and Oxfam Canada. More that 50 business in downtown Edmonton participated, donating 7% of their revenue that day. Over $7000 were raised. More than 20 volunteers distributed handbills to the public at booths around the city and the event received some excellent press coverage including CBC Radio and a story in See and Vue Magazines.

In Halifax, the Make Poverty History Coalition developed a report card reviewing the Government of Canada’s contributions to the MDGs. Sub-average grades were allotted in all categories: Trade, Aid and Debt. The overall effort was deemed in need of improvement. Report cards were distributed to the public and media on July 7th.
