- FAIR PLAY FOR AFRICA LAUNCHED IN KENYA
- Civil Society Groups, government officials, media personalities and even a veteran Kenyan player joined hundreds of Kenyans at the Railways Club to launch the local Fair Play for Africa initiative. Egypt might have been crowned African Champions for the third consecutive time in Angola yesterday, but here in the Kenyan capital Nairobi, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Algeria and even South Africa were fighting it out for top honours. Confused?

- This year Stand Up and Take Action Against Poverty and Inequality mobilised an incredible 173,045,325 million people during over 3,000 events in more than 120 countries. In addition to the increase in numbers and the breaking of a new Guinness World record for the largest mobilization of human beings in recorded history, Stand Up 2009 was characterised by even stronger political messages than other years, as the 2015 deadline for the fulfillment of the MDGs looms and the devastating combined affects of the climate, financial, food and gender crises have begun to manifest in increased poverty and inequality.

- 30 orphans of kenyakids (www.kenyakids-help.com) attended the stand up campaign on October 17th 2009. The orphans live in Kawangware slum in Nairobi Kenya.

- GCAP Kenya appeals for restoration of peace and good governance for sake of Kenyan poor
- Members of the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP) alliance across Kenya today called for an agreed, negotiated settlement so that good governance is restored. Following weeks of violence, the country needs to be put back onto a positive path for development and ending poverty in the interests of all its people. Political de-stabilisation following disputed election results on December 30 th is a distraction from the critical work that needs to be done to improve the lives of Kenyans living with out access to water, sanitation, housing, work or education.

- GCAP Kenya alliance urges dialogue and says the political leadership as a whole has let down its people
- Violence sweeping across Kenya since December 27th's disputed election is undermining years of progress in the fight against poverty and inequality there. With the economy at a standstill, violence and ethnic cleansing is devastating urban slums and poor rural areas. The Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP) Kenya network members most affected include slum based Korogocho Networks, Kariobangi, Mathare networks, Migori, and Molo networks.
