White Band Day 2 - Togo

Lomé, September 7th 2005 - The City Hall of Lomé is brightly decorated with white banners, which draw attention to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The highly visible white banners hung from local government buildings in support of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDG) will drive home the development agenda of cities and local governments worldwide in the first fortnight of September. The timing of the Campaign is well planned. As heads of state from around 180 countries make their way to the UN World Summit between September 14th and 16th to review progress on the eight MDGs, five years after they were agreed to, they can't miss the banners hanging from town halls, councils and local authority buildings from Lome to Venice. Back in Togo's capital city, the representatives of the Togo national MDG campaign organized a meeting with all the mayors and local authorities’ administrators at the main City hall of Lomé and decided on series of actions represented by these four points: First to display the banners from all city halls and districts with a message of support for the MDGs, to send the Common Declaration commune to the Headquarter of Towns and locals Governments, to send a memorandum to the Togo state Leaders, to give recommendations to the UN Secretary General at UN World Summit (MDG+5) in New York in September.
