White Band Day 2 - Germany
On Friday September 9th, for the second White Band Day, the German GCAP coalition, ‘Deine Stimme Gegen Armut’ presented to Chancellor Schröder the 300,000 names that they have collected this year. Reinhard Hermle requested that the Chancellor personally calls for greater and renewed efforts to meet the MDGs at the UN Summit in New York. Throughout the year, campaign supporters have given their ‘voices against poverty’ by adding signatures and messages to giant white bands at events and campaign moments around the country this year. On September 9th, hundreds of these activists also came together in front of the Bundestag and joined the pieces of signed white material together to form a 800 meter long white band, calling for world leaders to do more to end poverty now. Reinhard Hermle will take the voices of the German people to the UN Summit, when he travels to New York as part of the German delegation. Thousands of German citizens will be displaying large white bands white bands and campaigning at festivals and cultural events in regions across Germany on September 10th.
