UK campaigners have sent Gordon Brown off to the G8 in Japan with strong anti-poverty messages. On 3 July, a Tanabata tree and a 60,000 strong petition were delivered to the Prime Minister’s door.
Impressions from the GCAP Global Council and CIVICUS World Assembly
Glasgow played host to the first GCAP Global Council before the CIVICUS World Assembly, attended by over 20 people from around the world representing the regions and constituency groups that make up this unique global alliance. Among those present were two regional secretariat staff, Tasneem Athar and Chona Ramos – both in Scotland for the first time. During one of the WA breaks they talked about their impressions;
GCAP hands over People's wishes to the Japanese Prime Minister
GCAP Korea representative, Hykungung Kim was one of a group of international NGOs to meet Japanese Prime Minister Fukuda in Tokyo on Wednesday June 18th. She also tied a white and, the symbol of the campaign, around the wrist of the Prime Minister who stood for a photograph beside the campaign symbol, a Tanabata bamboo tree.
Stop the Food Crisis 2008: Mobilising around the world
On June 3-5, world leaders met in Rome to discuss ways to address the current global food crisis. GCAP called for a global day of action on or around June 1, to demand that governments Act Now to End Poverty and Inequality and Stop the Food Crisis.
