The proposed two-day GCAP Asia meeting aims to accomplish the following:

  • Review GCAP’s activities for 2007 and agreements made during the last Asia Meeting

  • Draw up the general directions of GCAP Asia for the next 3 years

  • Develop a regional policy agenda and plans for 2008, including mobilizations for 2008 

  • Discuss on GCAP’s future structure and transition process

  • Transitional Governing Council (GC)

  • Nomination of representatives to GC

  • Developing MoUs between GC and National Coalitions

  • Develop Ways of working towards

  • Influencing global processes

  • Effective partnerships and outreach

  • Funding and resource mobilization

  • Setting up of monitoring and evaluation systems

  • Review of the two secretariat arrangement for GCAP Asia

 

The following are the expected outcomes/results of the meeting:

  • The review of activities and agreements made during last year’s Asia meeting are considered as major inputs for the three year strategic direction for GCAP Asia.

  • A political statement/communique on worsening poverty and inequality and MDG implementation status is distributed to media and GCAP constituencies, and discussion on these continue with policymakers and national governments.

  • GCAP Asia action plans are drafted with inputs from national coalitions plans.

  • National coalitions have clearer understanding of GCAP transition processes; and comments/feecback  and agreements are generated from the national coalitions on these processes.

  • Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between national coalitions and Global Council (GC) are undertaken.

  • Asia nominations for the GC are made and able to generate active participation of all national coalitions during the GC election.

  • A GCAP Asia Organisational Development (OD) plan is drafted which includes setting up monitoring and evaluation systems, partnership and outreach priorities, funding and resource mobilization, capacity building for national coalitions, etc.

  • A decision on the two-subregional secretariat arrangement is made and implemented.
