PEOPLE AROUND THE GLOBE CALL ON WORLD LEADERS TO ACT ON THE 2ND ANNIVERSARY of SDGs (#ACT4SDGs)

Today, on the 2nd anniversary of the SDGs, thousands of people in 834 events in 109 countries and more than 3 million people on social media around the world are raising their voices and calling on world leaders to be accountable and to #ACT4SDGs.

It’s been two years since 25 September 2015, when UN world leaders agreed to a definitive plan for the planet and its people by adopting the Agenda 2030 and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The SDGs are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.

“Only if the people demand it will governments act” says Beckie Malay, Co-Chair of the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP) from the Philippines. Civil society organisations are organising 834 events from Manila to Buenos Aires, to Brussels and Nairobi.

Dear Colleagues,

We the People - take Action for SDGs!

in

Dear Colleagues,

On September 25th 2015 the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted by all members states of the United Nations (UN). We are organizing a global action for the two year anniversary on the 25th September 2017 under the slogan "We the People - take Action for SDGs!".

Many governments publicly congratulate themselves on the progress on the SDGs. But accountability mechanism are weak and the overall implementation has been slow, uneven and non-inclusive. A clear picture of progress of individual countries and the international community can only be achieved if governments work with citizens and civil society on national implementation plans.
