GCAP India Organizes Civil Society Review of Indian Government

24 June, New Delhi

Wada Na Todo Abhiyan (WNTA organised a Civil Society Review of the 2nd year of UPA-II on 23rd and 24th June 2011 at Vishwa Yuvak Kendra, New Delhi to evaluate the performance of UPA-2 government over the past one year.

A Report Card was released by Shri A.B. Bardhan, General Secretary, CPI  and Nikhil Dey, (MKSS) on 23rd June in the Inaugural session.

GCAP Urges India To Lead G20 Action On Hunger

"India must take lead to ensure the G20 acts decisively to end hunger and deprivation"

GCAP and its partners in India have come together to produce a letter addressed to the G20 Agriculture Minister of India in the wake of the G20 Agriculture Ministers' Meeting to be held in Paris this week. CARE Deutschland-Luxemburg honours GCAP Global Council Member, Ashok Bharti for his courageous and effective work for the rights of the Dalits in India with the CARE Millennium Award 2011.

Within the Millennium Campaign, Mr. Bharti has relentlessly encouraged the Dalits to exercise their rights in conjunction with government and non-government programs.

GCAP India Calls for Increased Spending on Education & Health

GCAP India (Wada na Todo Abhiyan) and their "Nine is Mine Campaign" calls for increased spending on education and health - 6 and 3 % GDP accordingly.

The Government has just announced that it will increase health spending to 2% - the campaign will continue to lobby for the extra 1%
