THE GCAP E-LETTER 2007

20th July 2007 - Edition #4

*****************************************************

The Global Call to Action against Poverty (GCAP) is a growing alliance of trade unions, community groups, faith groups, women and youth organisations, NGOs and other campaigners working together across more than 100 national platforms. GCAP is calling for action from the world’s leaders to meet their promises to end poverty and inequality.
The white band is our symbol and expression of solidarity against poverty.

The International Federation of Human Rights and National Conference of Bishops have officially denounced the “repressive” action taken by police in El Salvador when protestors, including GCAP national representatives, were captured in Suchitoto at the beginning of the month.  They sent their denunciation to the Commission for Human Rights in El Salvador and demanded their immediate protection and ultimate release.  We will keep GCAP posted of developments and encourage you to support our friends in the El Salvador coalition.
