Tanabata Online action

Action Now: End poverty and inequalityFor this year’s G8 Summit in Japan, the GCAP G8 Working Group has developed a new online action to share with all GCAP national coalitions and supporting organisation’s websites.

The action is called Action Now – End Poverty and Inequality and asks people to choose a message on Aid, HIV/AIDS, Climate Change and Education (they can chose all four issues if they like). The messages will be sent to the leaders at the G8 Summit and, later, other meetings during the year.  You can see the action at www.whiteband.org/actionnow.

This online action will be placed on dozens of web sites including those of GCAP national coalitions, supporting organisations and alliances and partners to increase the global mobilisation of people calling on politicians to act on poverty and inequality – and to bring more people to your coalition/organisation.

The action is on www.whiteband.org in Arabic (mixed with Englihs), English, French, Portuguese and Spanish. Please promote this action through your network and supporters.

Contact the Global Secretariat to find out how to get Tanabata on your website; or link to the action on www.whiteband.org using one of these web banners.

NEW! Now you can read the G8 blog, subscribe to our G8 RSS feed or see the G8 Press page which also contains the latest info.

G8 Working Group - Postcard Action Lobbying Kit - Until 11 January 2007

Jpn cardThe G8 group has put together a New Year’s card action – a tradition in Japan where the G8 will meet in 2008. The toolkit below is designed to facilitate lobbying by GCAP national coalitions to their Japanese ambassadors in their own country. It includes a sample lobbying letter and media release, and the New Year postcard.

We would like to invite all national coalitions wishing to participate to present the card to Japanese ambassador in their country in the early part of January 2008 (by 11th January) – full details can be found on the attached toolkit.

GCAP sees this year’s G8 as an opportunity to again lobby the G8 governments to deliver and exceed their 2005 Gleneagles Commitments. Recent years have seen G8 leaders make significant commitments to act on some of the biggest problems facing developing countries and the G8 Working Group aims to make them honour those commitments. This kit contains background to the Japanese G8 and guidance for lobbying, a sample draft letter and media release.

Please also email kel_currah@wvi.org from the G8 group to let him know if you participate and send any photos you may have, or contact him for any further assistance.Download the:
